One Minute Club
May 12, 2019

This is the 1 Minute Club: a simple concept that everyone (especially you, since you’re reading this!) can apply everywhere.

What you need:

  1. A timer
  2. A sharp mind

It’s really simple and it goes like this:

  1. Someone gets the mic. They set the timer for 1 minute and briefly present their thing.
  2. After that, people raise their hand and talk. Timer is set to 5 min. This happens for UP TO 5 minutes (if the idea is good, it’ll be talked about)
  3. Shuffle subjects. The person with the mic chooses someone else and we go back to step 1.

It’s simple and it works. Why?

  1. Can be easily replicated.
  2. If it requires more than 5+1 minutes of discussion, it means you’re up to something. You can discuss it after the club.
  3. If you don’t like the presented concept, you can just scroll your feed for those 6 minutes.
  4. Chances are, you’re going to give it a chance. You’ll learn new stuff.
  5. It can work for a specific subject (discussing new marketing techniques) or for an all-subjects-allowed-night (company night/startup event)

Example

Maybe you briefly heard about Bitcoin on the internet. You were told it’s used by terrorists and drug lords so you dismissed it. Someone talks about Bitcoin at the 1 Minute Club and you find out how it’s all about privacy and non-traceable transactions so it’s not all about illegal activity.

On the other hand, you might know nothing about a specific subject (that someone else pushes forward) and you have the newcomer’s point of view.

I myself came up with a philosophical discussion. Presented it for 1 minute then people built on top of it.

You can share with people this new business idea you’ve had OR just something interesting you’ve found on the internet the other day. Chances are, if you found this thing interesting, others will as well.
